Julie Bergmann

Julie has a genuine passion for photography that shows in her many images of children she has taken over the past 12 years. A fine arts major originally, she fell into photography around 12 years ago when her first child was born and hasn't stopped since.

She finds children the best subjects to work with as they supply a never ending resource for candid and innocent photos. You can take a dozen kids and photograph them in the same scene and no two pictures will be the same. They will all lend their own charm and character to the image. This gives an unlimited source of inspiration and subject matter for her to work with.

The most challenging aspect of photographing children is creating interesting settings for them to react in. Julie strives to create unique and creative situations as well as new twist on classic ones such as dress up. Once an idea has been established the easy part comes in. You just let the kids be them selves. Patience plays a big part in the game as well.

Sometimes kids are a little apprehensive to let loose, but once they see you are there to have fun they let go. Julie is extremely meticulous when it comes to her work. She personally hand prints all of her enlargements on fiber based paper to get the best surface to apply color to. This allows her to control a lot of factors of each photo to be sure she has the highest quality possible. She spends hours on each hand tinted image applying photo oils with paints and pencils to bring the photo to life.

Julie has many images that have been published as calendars, greeting cards, promotional materials and magazine covers and editorial content. She looks forward to long successful career as a photographic artist as she knows she'll never run out of subject matter and her passion will not fade.
